Travis Wetherelt Wins Cessna 180 Plane

Oplite Technologies recently joined a number of companies in sponsoring a plane to be raffled off by the Alaska Airmen’s Association, a non-profit organization whose mission is “to promote general aviation in Alaska.” Each year, the association sends bids to aircraft builders to build a new refurbished plane, and Oplite was happy to be a part of the 2020 plane raffle.

The plane raffled this year was a completely refurbish early model Cessna 180 with a 260+ horsepower engine. Above Alaska Aviation’s primary goal with this aircraft was to make it a true four place heavy hauler. They equipped the aircraft with both 29” bushwheels and Wipline 3000s floats, extended wings, a STOL kit, gross weight increase, extended baggage compartment, IFR capable avionics, a constant speed composite propeller, a full electrical system including LED lighting, and many other useful modifications.

Back in May, Travis Wetherelt (pictured below) was selected as a winner of the raffle. Congratulations, Travis!

Oplite Sponsors Raffle PlaneIn a letter to Oplite, Travis says, “I traveled to Alaska from North Dakota for the first time to see this stunning plane. I am truly humbled by everything that went into making this airplane so incredible!”

Videos of the build process for this plane can be found on Above Alaska Aviation's website.
